WHATS BEHIND THE NAME OF A FIGURE? COMPILED BY PEDRO Cha Cha. “Cha-cha-cha is the name of a dance of Cuban origin. It is danced to the music of the same name introduced by Cuban composer and violinist Enrique Jorrín in 1953. This rhythm was developed from the danzón by asyncopation of the fourth beat. PERFECT 10: THE SAMBA BY RACHELLE STRETCH Samba is a progressive Latin dance that evolved from various different dances – mostly in Brazil. It is known for its “samba tick” or bounce action. HISTORY - WORLD DANCE COUNCIL - WDC ED Today’s World Dance Council was formed 1950 under the name International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD). As an international body of dance teachers, with P.J. Richardson as chairman, and Arthur Franks as honorary secretary, this new international body assumed the THE WDC 70 YEARS OF HISTORY competitive dancing. President Mr Donnie Burns MBE has now been unanimously re-elected into the history books as it’s longest reigning president in the now 70 year history of the World dance council. ICBD 1950 – WDC 2020 70 fabulous years protecting the interests of dancers of all ages around the world . Long may itcontinue.
