You might know him as a founding member of the duo Fuck Buttons. For his solo project, Power took the animalistic simplicity and energy of his former band’s sound and crafted it into something otherworldly, rich in melodic composition as well as experimentation. Since 2011’s self-titled debut album, he hasn’t taken BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD CURATED BY SHAME It’s all happening quickly for the London-based six-piece Black Country, New Road. Their first fame came before they even released one song, proving just how intense and bewildering their live performances are. GRIMM GRIMM CURATED BY CATE LE BON Grimm Grimm is the moniker of London-based, Tokyo-born singer-songwriter Koichi Yamanoha. Since 2013, the project has been an outlet for his fragile, otherworldly forays into baroque folk, futurist lyricism and electroacoustic oddities, culminating in some kind of spacefolk full of intimate confessions - in English and Japanese - and with an honest vulnerability which make his live MANNEQUIN PUSSY CURATED BY SHAME The third full-length from Mannequin Pussy, Patience is an album fascinated with the physical experience of the body, its songs tracking the movements of mouths and hands and racing hearts, skin and spit and teeth and blood. Deeply attuned to the power of their own physicality, the Philadelphia-based band channels complex emotion in blistering riffs, thrashing rhythms, vocals that feel as SHEER MAG CURATED BY SONIC CITY Sheer Mag’s dizzying rise began in 2014, when the Philadelphia band self-released three 7-inches. However to suggest in anyway that a lack of heartache has led to a lack of pop songs on Bitw’s debut album would be disingenuous to say the least. If anything it feels like melodic pop is oozing from every song on the album. CORRIDOR CURATED BY SHAME Corridor is a four-piece hailing from Montreal, Canada. They take familiar elements but assemble and scramble them in a way you may not have heard before. For instance; there’s a twin-guitar interplay that recalls the late-70s new wave of XTC with a sense of melody that shows a love of 60s psychedelica and sunshine pop. You can sense these influences but still, Corridor puts their own twist JESSICA PRATT CURATED BY SHAME Jessica Pratt is not a loud performer. She does not have to be. In a club of a few hundred, even the bar staff are known to go quiet while she's on stage. Her third album, Quiet Signs, feels like a distillation of this power. The album leads off with ‘Opening Night’, a nod to Gena Rowlands' harrowing, brilliant performance in the John Cassavetes film of the same name, as well as to where BOY HARSHER CURATED BY SONIC CITY Boy Harsher is beatsmith Augustus Muller and singer-performer Jae Matthews. Both have a background in film and started a project in 2013 called Teen Dreamz, which consisted of Matthews reading self-written short stories while Muller provided a live musical score.
