TAKING IN THEÂ GOOD
March 21, 2020 â Patrice I wanted to share a quick and easy way to bring more joy into your life. Rick Hanson, Ph.D. is a neuropsychologist, who has written a number of books on the technique, which he calls âTaking in the Good.â Other folks describe a similar method, known as savoring. No matter
the name, it is a simple, fast way to refresh your outlook or yourstate of mind.
Begin by selecting a positive moment from your life â past, present or something you would like to create in the future, and then close your eyes and create an image of the moment in your mind. Stay with the image for 30-60 seconds. Let your mind wander and daydream a bit about your moment â fill in as many details as you can. Relive, notice, or create lots of sensory relationships in your mind to your image â sights, smells, sounds, etc. and think about how good you felt/feel/or will feel about your joy-filled memory or moment. Keep going until you actually feel a difference in your body. You might find yourself smiling, or your shoulders relaxing or wiggling a bit. You may feel sensations flowing through your entire body or you might get goose bumps! When you feel like you are _there_ your brain will react accordingly and release a bouquet of goodness. Your moments to not have to be momentous, although they will work, as well. I savor each and every lattĂš or cappuccino I drink, and I always feel as though I have been on a mini-vacation! It is sorelaxing.
If you savor your personal positives 6 times a day â for a total of only 5-10 minutes â you will not only change your brain chemistry while you are savoring it, over time you will rewire your brain to think and feel more positively. Set an alarm on your phone or with Alexa to remind you throughout the day to pause and savor. Or get in the habit of âTaking in the Goodâ each time you get a cup of coffee, brush your teeth, wake-up, go to sleep â anything you do on a regular basis can be a greatreminder for you.
_Donât worry about doing the process 6 times a day when you begin, simply start! If you remember to develop and embellish your thought â you will feel the effects immediately as your brain releases happy chemicals and hormones that help your brain cells connect. Itâs science, and it works._ Go for it, âTake in the Good,â or savora moment

9 EASY WAYS TO SHAKE-OFFÂ STRESS March 12, 2020 â Patrice Dear Wishful Thinking Works Readers, Even the Market is taking 15 minute breaks. If this is a trying time for you, take a deep breath . . .three deep breaths with a slow exhale can do wonders for your body and your sweet little brain. Come on, right now is a good time. Easy Ways to Give Yourself a Break 1. Watch kitten videos. If you hate those, watch any videos that will make you laugh or smile. 2. Listen to music. Play your favorites while your work. 3. Dance like nobody is watching. (If that is not your thing, lift your shoulders, stretch your arms, run in place for a few. the key isto move.)
4. Hug your kids- then read or play with them. 5. Clean that closet. 6. Call a friend. Or write those cards you have been meaning to send. 7. Download a good book or read the one that has been siting on your nightstand for months. 8. Get out in nature, if you canât â check out nature web cams online or visit nature based sites â there are thousands waiting todelight you.
9. Review the photos in your phone, I just spent a few minutes on vacation reliving amazing trips. Repeat as needed, and increase your self-care â now is a great time to treat yourself gently. Breathe . . . this too shall pass.Thinking of you,

enjoy a new aspect of life, and that is exactly what I want to do foryou today.

THANKSGIVING TALES
November 27, 2019 â Patrice @ Wishful Thinking Works Oral traditions are almost as old as mankind. Telling stories has been bringing families and communities together for thousands of years. Writing them has been going on for hundreds of generations. THE TYPE OF STORIES WE TELL, SHAPE OUR RELATIONSHIPS AND OURREALITIES.
Why not start a new Thanksgiving tradition by sharing a short personal story about someone or something you are thankful for as you sit down to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner? Many Americans will be sharing _what_ they are thankful for, but why not expand the moment and the feelings by telling a story? YOUR STORY DOES NOT HAVE TO BE LONG OR EARTH-SHATTERING, JUST REALAND HEARTFELT.
We are much more inclined to complain about our lives and the trials and tribulations we face than we are to celebrate the moments that make life and magical and memorable. And, yet, most of us have lives filled with touching tales â small moments or momentous events when something or everything went well or turned-out right, or someone reached out to us at just the right time. What better time than Thanksgiving to share simple, sweet, touching tales of who we are and why others matter to us? HERE ARE FEW OF MY TALES TO GET YOU IN THE STORYTELLING MOOD . . . _I often think of Mrs. Grace Weidenthal and how her kindness and support helped me get a womenâs group scholarship for âOlder Returning Studentsâ, which led to my finishing college and eventually my Masters. (I was 28 at the time!)_ _I will never forget the kindness shared to me as a child by my motherâs friend and one of my younger brothersâ godmothers. When Mrs. Werner brought my brother a gift for his birthday or a holiday, she always made sure to include something smaller, but no less special, for the other siblings closest to his age. A small gesture on her part, but one that filled my heart and head with pleasure and promise! I knew I would be included, and looked forward to her visits with anticipation, not only for her gifts but also to her boisterous and booming voice as she bestowed our treats upon us. She spread joy and generosity with gusto._ _I often think of the help Professor Potteroff at Cuyahoga Community College gave me. Without the time he spent tutoring me, I am not sure I would have had the confidence to finish his Algebra class or to later take, and fall in love with, statistics. _ _I love it when someone does something small and kind, like holding a door, pausing to let me or others turn left, or slows a bit to let me enter a lane. Friendly cashiers can also make my day!_ Sharing tales of positive moments in our lives might take some getting used to or may seem a bit awkward at first, but all great traditions must start somewhere, why not this Thanksgiving? HERE ARE 5 TIPS FOR STARTING YOUR THANKSGIVING STORYTELLING TRADITION:* KEEP IT SHORT.
* KEEP IT POSITIVE! No fair, sharing tales that shine a less than stellar light on anyone â no matter how funny or memorable the tale might be! Besides, sharing your happy moments, increases the odds other will be happier, too. (Happiness is contagious.) * SUGGEST A LEAD-IN or place slips of paper with printed lead-ins at everyoneâs place or in a basket to pass. (Creating the slips and basket is a great pre-Thanksgiving task for kids. Let them use their creativity on the leads and the method of sharing. If you are short on kids, simply print them on paper and cut them up.) 1)   âI will never forget . . .â 2)   âI love(d) it when . . . â 3)   âIt felt really good when . . .â 4)   âI was so excited when . . .â 5)   âI often think of  . . . â 6)   âWhen I was a kid . . .â Only use this lead in if what follows is strictly positive and not shared to teach a lesson orillustrate a point.
* MAKE SURE YOU OR ONE OF THE MOST OUTGOING CHILDREN GO FIRST, this will âwarm-upâ the crowd. * REALLY LISTEN when folks are sharing; make sure they have the floor. You can even provide something fun to pass as the âSpeakerâs Sharing Toolâ. Anything related to the holiday will work; ceramic turkey, battery-lit candle, serving spoon, etc. The sillier or sentimental the item is, the better. Remember to thank each person who shares, before moving on. Hopefully, reading this post has already brought good memories to mind and gotten you into the Thanksgiving spirit. If not, no problem, you still have plenty of time to think of a thankful tale or two, and to get things ready for your guests to share in your new tradition.Have fun!

FALL IS THE TIME FOR AWAKENING OR REALIZINGÂ DREAMS September 23, 2019 â Patrice The subtle changes in the weather delight me most. Autumn has a way of making each of us imagine we are the first to notice the changes it brings, or that the awareness is a private joy, like a new love or a special gift just for us. We embrace the change, assuming no one has ever felt exactly like this before, or that we arespecial.
And, yet as the day unfolds we realize everyone is talking about the change in weather. We quickly come to understand that others are noticing the changes in the air, the dusty, drier scents and the way the light softens and takes on a golden hue, but instead of being disappointed that others are enjoying the same sensations we are â as we might feel while competing for the same personâs attention or the disappointment that the gift received was given to others, as well, â autumn has a way of making us excited that we will have others to celebrate with. The change of season hold gifts for all of us. Explore and enjoy all the ideas, tastes, and plans that pop-up in the weeks ahead.
