Edward Hamilton founded the original Hamilton factory, called J.E. Hamilton Holly Wood Type Company, in 1880, and within 20 years became the largest manufacturer of wood type in the United States. Hamilton's rapid growth is reflected in the ledgers and journals in the museum's collection dating back to 1880. In 2018, the Museum chose Jen Farrell of Starshaped Press as our fourth Visiting Artist. It is a three-year post held by an artist that Hamilton decides has a combination of skills that allow them use of our pressroom and collection to further their work while enhancing the museum’s visibility. Fees. We charge $100 for each day in the working space. Printing fee deposits are required for confirmation on the Hamilton pressroom schedule. All deposits are one half of the estimated fees and are non-refundable. Rental fees cover the use of wood type in the pressroom, CMYK and opaque white ink, solvents and rags. Stephanie is a graphic designer, letterpress printer, and book artist. At the museum she teaches letterpress and bookmaking workshops, serves as in-house printer, directs social media and the website, coordinates interns, and MAKE THE ART YOU'D LIKE TO SEE. This art was creatively designed and letterpress printed by Larry Corrado. A simple message by Austen Kleon makes a relevant statement. Each print is unique with slight color variations; please let HAMILTON COMPANY: A PROUD LEGACY They are original pencil drawings on velum with little detail. They did, however, show that the builder was the Hamilton Company. The new Executive Administrative Director of the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing museum had unwittingly purchased a Hamilton House constructed in 1948.I
HAMILTON STORIES: AN ORAL HISTORY Hamilton Stories: An Oral History, was a six-event speaker series in 2015 at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, that commemorated the occupational heritage and process of making wood type. In 2018, the Museum chose Jen Farrell of Starshaped Press as our fourth Visiting Artist. It is a three-year post held by an artist that Hamilton decides has a combination of skills that allow them use of our pressroom and collection to further their work while enhancing the museum’s visibility. Fees. We charge $100 for each day in the working space. Printing fee deposits are required for confirmation on the Hamilton pressroom schedule. All deposits are one half of the estimated fees and are non-refundable. Rental fees cover the use of wood type in the pressroom, CMYK and opaque white ink, solvents and rags. P22 Type Foundry. Hamilton Wood Type is proud to collaborate with the venerable P22 Type Foundry on the revival of original wood type design to create digital fonts.
