VISIT – HAMILTON WOOD TYPE MUSEUM Welcome to Two Rivers! Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum boasts 80,000 square feet of typographic and letterpress wonders. We offer tours daily, a killer array of monthly workshops and gallery space showcasing the best printing HISTORY – HAMILTON WOOD TYPE MUSEUM J. Edward Hamilton. J. Edward Hamilton founded the original Hamilton factory, called J.E. Hamilton Holly Wood Type Company, in 1880, and within 20 years became the largest manufacturer of wood type in the United States. Hamilton's rapid growth is reflected in the ledgers and journals in the museum's collection dating back to 1880. ABOUT - HAMILTON WOOD TYPE & PRINTING MUSEUM The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type. With 1.5 million pieces of wood type and more than 1,000 styles and sizes of patterns, Hamilton’s collection is one of the premier wood type collections in the world. In 2018, the Museum chose Jen Farrell of Starshaped Press as our fourth Visiting Artist. It is a three-year post held by an artist that Hamilton decides has a combination of skills that allow them use of our pressroom and collection to further their work while enhancing the museum’s visibility. Jen’s outstanding abilities as a printer andPRINT WITH US
Fees. We charge $100 for each day in the working space. Printing fee deposits are required for confirmation on the Hamilton pressroom schedule. All deposits are one half of the estimated fees and are non-refundable. Rental fees cover the use of wood type in the pressroom, CMYK and opaque white ink, solvents and rags. P22 Type Foundry. Hamilton Wood Type is proud to collaborate with the venerable P22 Type Foundry on the revival of original wood type design to create digital fonts. ANTIQUE TUSCANS IN AMERICA A 6-line cut of Hamilton’s No 14 (Antique Tuscan Expanded) is today part of the Rob Roy Kelly American Wood Type Collection at The University of Texas at Austin 1. Kelly acquired the font — a full set of capitals, numerals and various punctuation — in the early 1960s from a print shop in Fremont, Nebraska. PRINT WITH US
Fees. We charge $100 for each day in the working space. Printing fee deposits are required for confirmation on the Hamilton pressroom schedule. All deposits are one half of the estimated fees and are non-refundable. Rental fees cover the use of wood type in the pressroom, CMYK and opaque white ink, solvents and rags. EVENTS – HAMILTON WOOD TYPE MUSEUM Globe Spectacular Letterpress Workshop: September 11. Print with unique pieces of history at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in this on-site, one-day workshop. P22 Type Foundry. Hamilton Wood Type is proud to collaborate with the venerable P22 Type Foundry on the revival of original wood type design to create digital fonts. In addition to reviving historical designs from the museum's collection, we also enlist contemporary type designers to create new, original fonts as part of our Wood TypeLegacy Project.
