Research has shown that the exotic pet trade is a key threat to many species’ survival with large-scale poaching and theft from the wild devastating natural populations – adding to existing threats such habitat loss and the trade in wildlife for trophies, traditional medicine and PETSMART SELLS SPECIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING TO SURVIVE IN PetSmart continues to sell animals regardless of the biodiversity crisis. Many reptile and amphibian populations are under pressure in the wild including Ball pythons, tortoises and chameleons. All these species are listed by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) to prevent furtherdecline
ONTARIO HAS A NEW ANIMAL PROTECTION LAW The PAWS Act was passed after three readings in parliament and one public hearing, where we were selected to present our concerns about the bill, which occurred on November 29.. The main recommendations we presented to the committee included the following: A request to include the permitted list in the Act, which would give the government the possibility to determine which animals CANADA GETS A FAILING GRADE IN GLOBAL TEST OF ANIMAL Canada received a ‘D’ grade, alongside other countries including, Tanzania, Peru and the United States. Shockingly, not one country has obtained an ‘A’ grade. Sweden, the United Kingdom and Austria received the highest score with a ‘B’. However, there is room for improvement in these countries too. Some countries such as Morocco ENDING THE BEAR BILE INDUSTRY Our work.
