Zlatan Ibrahimovic (left) played 90 minutes for Milan against Juventus, who take a 1-1 back to Turin thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo. Photograph: AFP via Getty Images A stoppage-time Cristiano Ronaldo penalty rescued a 1-1 draw for Juventus at 10-man Milan on Thursday in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final. Ante Rebic’s volley gave the hosts a deserved lead after 61 minutes, following a string of good saves from veteran Juve goalkeeperGianluigi Buffon.

But Stefano Pioli’s side were reduced to 10 men for the final 18 minutes when defender Theo Hernandez was shown a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Paulo Dybala. Juventus were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, which showed that a Ronaldo scissor kick had struck the arm of Milan defender Davide Calabria. The Portuguese forward smashed the spot-kick into the roof of the net to earn his side a draw before the second leg in Turin on 4 March. Napoli defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the first leg of the other semi-final in Milan onWednesday.
COPA DEL REY ROUNDUP Real Sociedad beat second division Mirandés 2-1 at home in the Copadel Rey semi-final
first leg on Thursday to stay on course to reach the final for the first time in 32 years. Spain international Mikel Oyarzabal fired the home side into the lead in the ninth minute at a heaving and noisy Anoeta Stadium. Sociedad last won the Copa del Rey in 1987 and are bidding to reach the final for the first time since 1988. But Mirandés, who also reached the semi-finals in 2012 and have knocked out three La Liga sides this season, levelled in the 40th through Brazilian forward Matheus Rodrigues.Read more
Sociedad’s Norway midfielder Martin Odegaard lost the ball in the build-up to the equaliser but redeemed himself three minutes later by netting on the rebound to restore the lead. The Basque side had more chances after the break but were kept at bay by keeper Limones, who gave Mirandés hope for the second leg at their tiny Estadio Municipal de Anduva, where they have knocked out Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Villarreal this season. Sociedad’s local rivals Athletic Bilbao beat Granada 1-0 at home on Wednesday in the other semi-final, setting up the prospect of an all-Basque final in Seville on 18 April.Topics

Sarri was hopeless and hapless at Chelsea, his inadequacies papered over by Hazard. Now Ronaldo is performing a similar service. Even his little favourite, Jorginho, is better without him.Jump to comment

Good news for Ronaldo, perhaps. More bad news for Juve supporters. Disconnect between players, between manager and players becoming a mainstay of our performances. Arguably we are worse a side now, to watch, in terms of cohesion and tactical potency than under Max. https://www.juvefc.com/missing-beppe-marotta/Jump to comment

Doesn't surprised me at all that it's another controversy involving Juve. After closely watching Serie A for a decade now, you kind of expect this every time they play, specially when late in the game and when they're in danger of losing or dropping points.Reply

As a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge I found the Sari style of play unbelievably boring with the midfielders not making enough runs in the box which in turn meant not enough shots or goals , I do not think he’s a bad manager as Chelsea did finish Third and won the Europa but personally I never liked his style of football and am much happier this season , what do the Juventus supporters make of Sari ball as the journalists call it ?Reply

People can quip ‘it was another penalty’ but Cristiano’s scissorearned it ffs!
Sarris style is a bore and the midfield is not good or pacy enough. Costa and Rabiot should be playing more.Reply

Ridiculous penalty decision. I can't think of what the defender should have done differently, other than having the benefit of hindsight in advance. Can only assume it was because it was Ronaldo and Juventus. Footballing authorities across Europe have truly lost the plot.Reply

Sarri was hopeless and hapless at Chelsea, his inadequacies papered over by Hazard. Now Ronaldo is performing a similar service. Even his little favourite, Jorginho, is better without him.Reply

Ha! On the picture it looks like they were tide together by their little ponytails. What a soap-opera that would make!Reply

Juve supporters complain about their team even when they are equal first in the scudetto! There would be riots in Turin if they finished third! Cazzo eh.Reply

Juventus look like dogshit. The midfield is mediocre, slow, and can't penetrate. At this point, just put in the best players and so be it. It's a miracle that Juventus are still in first place. Personally, I would just play Costa, Dybala, Higuain, Ronaldo all at once. It's sofucking ponderous.

Good news for Ronaldo, perhaps. More bad news for Juve supporters. Disconnect between players, between manager and players becoming a mainstay of our performances. Arguably we are worse a side now, to watch, in terms of cohesion and tactical potency than under Max. https://www.juvefc.com/missing-beppe-marotta/Reply

Nice work on the website. I don't miss Max, but Sarri is not getting it done. The players are slack, nothing is coming out of the midfield. Just passing around the edge of the box isn't going to do it.Reply

who next for Juventus is the question. I personally think the manager with the toughness and edge to manage them is Simeone- but as an Inter man I don't see that as possible. Pochettino? Nagelsmann?Reply

Thanks Joe, decent crowd over there and the owner is a top chap from up North back home in England. I was speaking with my cousin during the week, not like me a sicilian/anglo hybrid, but a full blown latin maniac who is appalled at my focus on anything other than Sarri, to explain our poor form. And was just watching Gab Marcotti echo my thoughts on the current state of play. Not so sure it is just Sarri, though he is becoming more clearly an obvious problem. We will stick with him until the Summer I am close to sure, for who else is available? Pocchetino? Always felt he was ear-marked forUnited...
Simeone has fallen out of love in Madrid, so perhaps he will end up at United and we will get Poch? I would be fine with that. Just really keen to have someone who can build a rapport with the players and between the players tactically. We don't have the best squad in the world, especially in midfield and at right back, but we should be playing much better football. Also felt for a while that Ronaldo has too much sway at the club. Understandably so, given his value off and on the field, but I truly do not believe we have become a better team with him in the squad and dominating where he pleases. Which is why I smirk at Shaka Hislop saying thank god for Ronaldo! For who is to say? Sarri might well have been able to implement more of his usual philosophy and tactical set up if he didn't have to shoe-horn the team around Ronaldo (whose close to free role doesn't fit Sarri tactically). No major reason to moan, but I don't follow Juve for the titles, its more for the sense of a team, a tribe, all hearts beating as one, some heaving collective that I connect to when seeing them play, feel a part of...Doesn't need to be pretty, just with an identity, growth and spirit. All of which are lacking.Reply
