Christian Eriksen gives a thumbs up as he greets fans from a window in Milan. Photograph: Matteo Bazzi/EPA Christian Eriksen has completed his protracted €20m (£16.9m) move from Tottenham Hotspurto Inter. The
Dane had already agreed personal terms with the Italian club, who are second in Serie A, and the deal was announced on Tuesday. The 27-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract. TRANSFER WINDOW JANUARY 2020 – EVERY DEAL FROM EUROPE'S TOP FIVELEAGUES

With his contract at Tottenham expiring at the end of the season, Eriksen could have joined Inter for free in the summer. But with Antonio Conte keen to bolster his attacking options immediately, a deal was reached sooner, bringing to an end the midfielder’s largely fruitful but ultimately frustrating time in north London. Spurs announced on Tuesday that they had signed Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent basis from Real Betis. The Argentinian, who has impressed recently after returning from injury, has signed a contract until2025.
The fee is understood to be €35m and Tottenham waited until Eriksen’s move had been done before confirming Lo Celso’s signing. The club have also agreed a fee of €30m for the PSV Eindhovenwinger Steven
Bergwijn, plus €2m in add-ons, with the player set to undertake his medical and put the finishing touches to the transfer. Eriksen joined Tottenham from Ajax for £11.5m in August 2013 and after an initially slow start he blossomed under the management of Mauricio Pochettino, become a key creative cog in a team that established themselves in the Premier League’s top four and, on occasion, pushed for the title. The 27-year-old was also part of the Spurs side that reached last season’s Champions League final, which they lost 2-0 to Liverpool and, ultimately, there were no trophies for the team when they were at their best and prior to a downturn this season that led to Pochettino being sacked in November.
Eriksen’s form also dipped and it has felt inevitable for some time that he would leave the club. He finally has.Topics

For me an era has come to an end. Loved watch him play in PL and around 15-18, he was the brain on a very impressive Tottenham side. It was time to leave to club for sure, and spurs have found a strong replacement in Lo Celso. I hope Eriksen shines in Italy and finally will be able to win some titles. He has earned it.Jump to comment

Personally find this pretty sad but was so clearly the best solutionfor him and us.
Biggest shame is the way he fizzled out given what he's done for. I hold less of a grudge against him for his subdued performances thanmany though.
Hope you rip up the Italian league Christian!Jump to comment

As a Spurs fan who watched his first match at The lane in 1958, who has seen Greaves, Gilzean, White, Mackay, Blanchflower, Peters, Hoddle,Ardiles, Perryman,Klinsmann, Best, Law, Charlton, Eusebio,Chivers, Dalgliesh and many others play at that lovely old stadium (the best was Best) I would say to Erikson you're good, but you're not that good.Reply

Since Levy priced him out of a Spain move, this is a good compromise. His form dipped but his commitment never did. Been a brilliant player but at 27 he has to have a new challenge. The Spur rebuild continues...just a couple of years too late.Reply

Read David Hytner's article on Eriksen. Not sure on the premise of it. For sure Spurs have 'lost' a great player - but I'd say as equally important to those great Poch sides were Dembele and Walker (and I'm not alluding to them being better players than the Dane - just as being effective in a team environment). Eriksen was the heartbeat of the team - but every player played a vital role. With Kyle Walker gone, a central part of Poch's wing back play almost disappeared overnight. Davies was more pragmatic than Rose. Trippier, although a great crosser of the ball - didn't have the speed. Danny Rose just seemed to lose interest. Dembele left a whole in midfield and which Wanyama and Dier didn't have the fitness to fill (or the technical ability). Kane became injury prone. I think the situation with Eriksen is more about him wanting a new challenge rather than anything else. I'm not sure that he moves to a 'better' team at this current time - but perhaps winning something might happen with Inter. Good luck to him.COYS!

The other article about how Spurs lost control of the transfer saga is terribly misguided. It talks a lot about money. For Eriksen it was never about money - although he pockets a neat wage at Inter to go with his status in the game. But for Christian and his wife it was all about wanting to try living in another culture. He is Danish, he spent 3 years in Holland, then 6 years in England, which was longer than he initially intended. But the time had come to move to make a clean break. That it did not come at first did not alter his course, he knew what he wanted, and while he would have preferred Spain, it may come yet, if the Italians go for the next big thing. It won't ruffleEriksen's feathers.

Sorry that Eriksen has gone but it was inevitable. We had a great 5 years from him. Class player. The less said about the last 12 monthsthe better though.
Very happy with the signings but didn’t Levy say there was no money??? He must be making a fortune from match day revenues??Reply

Well....he had to do something with the contents of those brown envelopes from the builders and the Council....didn't he? You don't get to win the CL if you keep your money tucked away safely under your mattress ! But seriously.....in the world of business, expenditure is always weighed against income.....but that might be a bit complicatedfor some !

Good riddance. Such a naive man, thought he was going to get Real or Barca, had to settle for Inter. Lol. Can't wait to see Inter chokeaway the Scudetto.

I think it’s so sad to read these negative comments. Yes be sad a great player of the Tottenham tradition of exciting passing attacking play leaves us, but come on, 6 good years from him. Don’t bring the Arsenal boo boys ways to Tottenham. Warm applause!Reply

You just don't have any comprehension of the bigger picture....do you ? Two years at Inter, and then a big money transfer to Madrid.....that way everybody gets a piece of the pie....except Madrid, who can afford to throw money around like confetti. Eriksen also gets the the additional bonus from two transfers, rather than just one ! There might even be a clause which says Spurs get an extra 20m if he's sold on in a certain time-frame. It's all about everybody getting the max for their investment before he hits 30.Reply

Great player and has been consistently exciting to watch for Spurs over the years. Sad to see him go, but I do think he has made an astute choice in Inter who seem to be a team on the up. Also, who wouldn't want to live a few years in Milano? Lovely city with a great football atmosphere.Reply

Pochettino punched overweight, but he barely got transfers, even the last transfer's deals were done late. When Morinho comes, there come three at once, with funds from players that Pochettino helped develop.Reply

Pochettino punched above his weight but Levy did not help him with transfers. Two full seasons without any new players and perhaps more detrimentally not shipping out unhappy players. Even last years transfers were done late which meant that Ndembele, LoCelso, Sessegnon were all out of action early in the season. With Mourinho, Levy gives him three new players immediately with funds that was not available to Poch. Levy is an idiot.Reply

It's the right time for Eriksen to go, he's been a top player for a few years and a key part of a good Tottenham side, but he's clearly been out of form and unhappy for this season, and it's better for him and for Tottenham for him to move on. Spurs just need to hope that Lo Celso can grow into the creative genius that 2017-18 Eriksen was, because they are really missing that player at the moment.Reply

I've been watching football since the early 90s, and I can't think of anyone obviously better. King, Klinsmann, Ginola or Kane maybe, but none I would definitely put above him.Reply

Lo Celso is going to prove to be a good buy. He will be a regular for Argentina as well. Bergwijn - not sure at all. I have not seen the raw talent that would indicate that he might be an upgrade on Lamela. If anyone in Spurs is reading this, please look at Pedrinho and / orDiego Rossi.
..oh yes, and thank you Eriksen for the years of service - great player and person. Inter have bought a diamond.Reply

Last season he was talking Real Madrid and Barcelona, he pulled and threw towel in and ends up at Inter. He must be kicking himself,he played a very poor hand of cards. Inter are team of very well paid journeyman on their last big contract. They will win the same as Spurs.Reply

Inter have had exactly the same number of players stabbed in the streets in recent years as Spurs It's almost as if the inner-city gang problem that drives the knife-crime problem doesn't have much impact on millionaire footballers living in mansion in Essex or Hertfordshire...Reply

I'm sure he's heartbroken earning a mere pittance at £260k basic. Another Levy shambles for Spurs. He should have been sold for a lot more than that when it was clear he wanted out. A top player has gonefor a song.
